Not too hard. Carriage off the rail, disconnect motor and brake connections, undo the four fixing bolts and pull it out the bottom of the chassis. Bit a blue tac is handy when reinstalling as the fixing nuts tend to drop out.
Is it bearings, gearbox or just brush failure as brushes can be done without removing the motor on older lifts.
