Acorn Superglide 120 with T498 PCB (New Member Requesting Advice)

I have a friend with an Acorn Superglide 120 which is fully down but will not move up or down and has a flashing ‘8’ error code which denotes ‘Footrest upper safety edge activated’. I have removed the cover and checked the both footrest safety edge microswitches physically and with a multimeter and they seem to be operating OK. Power off for 30 seconds and on again does not reset the error code. Removed the main cover and checked the battery output which was a nominal 15 volts with the charger isolated and the power switch in the ‘off’ position. But with the power switch in the ‘on’ position the battery voltage dropped to 4 to 6 volts and fluctuated as the error code ‘8’ flashed.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be very welcome.

I’d be inclined to fit a new pair of batteries, so at least you’ll have 24v to run the machine… then see what happens,

Thank you for the suggestion.
I was not sure of what the normal operating voltage should have been for this unit. I have ordered some new batteries and will also check that the charger is working OK and giving the necessary output.

The stairlift runs on 24 volts, the charger output is usually ,about ,approx in the region of 15 v AC, with rectification and regulation on the main pcb….

Thank you for your assistance and advice.
I have now replaced the batteries and the stairlift is now working and I have run it up and down a few times.
When reaching the bottom stop there is a ‘C’ code (Batteries) followed by a ‘1’ code (Normal). We then get a flashing ‘E’ code (Brake) followed by a ‘9’ (Carriage Up).
Not sure what this is about?
However, the latter does not seem to affect the operation of the lift.
Any further thoughts/advice on these code displays would be welcome.
