Meditek charging

D160, I’m told, charges either by a strip underneath the main rail or by contact of the drive gear with the teeth on the rail. I don’t see any strip underneath so I’m assuming I have the later.
I’ve noticed ocassionally when sitting on the seat a momentary “beep” & the display shows “Off Charge”, I think due to the slight movement of the seat.
I’ve tried cleaning the teeth on the rail to make better contact but with limited success.
Q: Is there better way to resolve this issue?
Tnx.

charge strip is on the side of the rail, normal issues are charge pin wear causing shortening of the pin and reducing contact to the charge strip or dirt between it and the copper strip, or wear in the rollers allowing the carriage to lean, pulling either the charge pin away from the strip or the pinion away from the rack, or the pinion gear if dirty again reducing its contact points with the rack
so check the rollers for wear
the charge strip is clean
the charge pin is clean
the condition of the charge pin
the condition of the pinion gear

Tnx. Having located the charge strip it appeared clean but I cleaned it anyway. I also removed the charge pin & cleaned that, there appeared to be very little sign of wear.
I had previuously cleaned the teeth on the rack & gear.
The only time this issue shows is when the seat arrives at the bottom, so I located the point of electrical contact at this time to be sure that was clean.
The movement in the seat is minimal.
I may try to obtain a new charge pin as it’s easy enough to replace.

Make sure the pinion gear is clean but still lubricated, a good white silicon grease, enough to do the job but not so much that everything is covered in it and gets bunged up with crap!
On what side of the rail is the rail is the charge strip?
As a a temp measure you could stretch the spring in the charge pin to improve its push against the charge strip
Pull the brass pin from its housing and there is a spring behind it, these go soft with age so stretching it may help?
Depending on the hand of the lift the charge pins are different! Make sure you get the correct one!
The other thing to try is to move the stopping ramp up the rail a bit, the rail sometime compresses and shrinks where the rollers rub with the getting on and off which can cause the carriage to rock and loose its contact
It should be held in place by two screws? Just move it up one hole and see how it goes before you drill the other one

Thanks Spike but I solved it as follows. Looking at the price of the pickup (based on MediTek’s last list) it was only £6.50 but today one company wants £35. So, I removed it and shaved a minimal amount off the housing so that it sits everso slightly deeper in the frame, making a better contact with the copper strip. The diagram shows where the plastic was shaved.
It seems to have worked as even with the normal movement of the seat the contact remains sound!

First image failed to display for some reason.

meditek are long gone, bought out by otto, so the parts are few and far between now and companies charge a fortune for them, I should really list all my parts on ebay looking at the prices some places want!
the other thing to watch out for is the cable where it is connected to the pin, the wires break leaving you with only a couple of strands connected at times and need resoldering
