Admittedly the artical is full of hyperbole and overdramatisation.
Cut and shut you would summise is regarding the rail, but the article then goes on to say that was supplied by another company, so it must have been the chasis and seat – anyone any ideas?

A company that claimed to sell new Stannah stair lifts to elderly Warwickshire residents actually sold them lifts which were made up of second hand parts, and in some cases… -
