Acorn Brooks superglide 120 seat post length

Hi, I just installed a straight Acorn stairlift (8 months old) and the seat-post is extra long. Is removing the post and cutting a section off it an option? If so can you give me tips to do it correctly please?. The other option is a £200 plus bill. Also, Why would the lower charging point have been moved to about 5ft up the carriage? Strange!

Brooks do three sizes of seat post, if you have the long one fitted then the short version will be 80mm shorter. £200 seems excessive, the part is £70 and it’s a ten minute job
Has the lift been on a hinged track? that is generally the reason for the high charge point. Again it’s a simple job to alter

Cutting the post is not an option…. 2 deaths in the last couple of years due to posts failing, pay for a new post….. or contact acorn with the serial number you may even be due a free replacement

Thanks for the replies. It is a single straight rail 4M long with no joins hence my question and surprise when I realised – too late! Ha, amateurs!. I can easy move the contact to the end thanks.
I’m happy to buy a new post and understand the safety implications. Sourcing it might be more tricky. Any ideas? The lift is only 8 months old so doubt it is one of the recalled seat-posts but I’ll check.
Out of interest, Acorn wanted £145 for the call out which includes the first hour and £56 for the post. So much for a ten minute job but we all have to earn a living.
PS, anyone want to buy a long seat post?
