Possible Scam?

I just had a call from the Daughter of one of my long term service customers.
Someone called her Mother Yesterday saying “the stairlift was due for a service and they were in the area tomorrow”
A chap called Richard Proctor – he had an ID card of some sort called today to do the service.
The daughter turned him away as I had serviced the stairlift in February and called me to investigate.
Is this a scam anyone has come across?
Could it be the company that originally sold the stairlift in about 2003 going through old records. Anyone heard of Richard Proctor?
Thanks
Mike

It is a Stannah 229.
They didn’t sound like a professional set up so I doubt it was Stannah. -

No, don’t think they’d even look at a 229 these days. Only other thought would be is it a local authority property – if so could it be an Insurance Company Inspector?
Otherwise I reckon a mention at the local Police station might be in order.
What area of the country are we talking? -

Kevin is right, Stannah don’t entertain the 229. If it was insurance surely they would have made you aware. I wouldn’t pay anyone to do anything to that lift unless I requested it.

It definitely wasn’t insurance.
It all ended well as the customers daughter was sharp enough to smell a rat.

I had a similar problem a few years ago, the only link I could find after exhaustive investigation was they all had insurance/ext.warranty from a well known industry provider
I had no proof but when I approached them it stopped, make of that what you will
