Reply To: Stannah 400 – Cleaning Rollers?

Thanks guys for the advice, a lot has happened since I posted. The Stannah has been serviced every year and the last service was only at the end of October when it was running fine. The track was clean but I thought the vibration was from muck on the rollers, I cleaned with a damp cloth and run it through a few times but it did not improve it, engineer came out Tuesday of this week, he cleaned it and changed the batteries as they were low got it working much smoother but as the day wore on it got worse, I called them out again on Friday as it was dreadful, they took it off the rail cleaned the rollers which they said were not in a brilliant state but still usable, they greased the drive rack and the deadweight for the cable by the time they left it was running smooth but again within hours the vibration started again. The vibration is quite severe on climbing the stairs, it tends to ease off nearer the top of the stairs, on the downward journey it has developed an almost lumpy ride with the motor straining then speeding up again. The engineers gave me two options as to possible cause, one- replace the rollers, two- replace the circuit board, both options are expensive, they quoted £40 per roller times 8 plus labour and the circuit board around £450. The problem I now have – is it worth repairing? The Stannah is 8 years old and is used a lot every day, if I am forced to carry out both repairs there is still no guarantee that it will work hence my dilemma. Any advice from you guys would be appreciated, I did think it may be worth getting another outfit in for a second opinion, what’s the best way forward?
