Do they have a problem?
Acorn used to give a 10 year warranty on motors and gearboxes, I think it’s down to 2 or 3 years now but the only issues I ever have is the gearbox side seal going allowing a pool of gearbox oil to accumulate in the bottom end cap. -
You are right about the warranty being only 2-3 years now. We have had quite a few gearbox failures over the years, until now we would have to replace the carriage as a replacement motor gearbox from acorn was almost the same price as a new carriage.

What warranty is supplied on the repairs and type testing approval as the gear box is a key component to prevent unitentional movement and self sustained locking of the carriage? are original OEM or third party parts fitted for repairs?

We replace the damaged gear in the gearbox. It is then bench tested for 1 hour current draw is monitored before testing on a carriage on a rail with a load. Warranty is 6 months.
