This forum has been such a big help to me and I wanted to give back a little bit as well as remember what I learned so I created a page showing problem solving for the Acorn 180 curved stairlift. You can view it here: http://okprops.com/how-to-problem-solve-an-acorn-180-or-bison-80-stairlift/

Oh dear. How unprofessional and dangerous giving info on how to bypass an osg. If you are a stairlift engineer you should hang your head in shame 🙁

OMG, wrong on so many levels
Programming instructions are wrong, wrong info regarding battery charging and illustrating how to bypass a osg is unbelievable
Any diy people reading this thread please do not believe a word of it

Maybe admin can remove the link before someone does some real harm

For the record, I stated on that page that “… the stairlift will be without an overspeed governor. This could pose a safety risk and should only be done if you have a temporary need to move the lift without someone on it.”
Thankfully I am not a “stairlift engineer” otherwise I would hang my head in shame continually. However, actual “stairlift engineers” should hang their head in shame because I had one come out and charge me $250 to do absolutely nothing except say that he cannot fix my stairlift. I had another one come out and say I needed a new one for over $5,000 USD. The shameful thing is that customers are getting ripped off all over the world just because they have loved ones in need and who are disabled. $250 just to come out. $250 just for new batteries they don’t need. $150 just to “re-program” the stairlift. You “stairlift engineers” are ripping off the elderly and the ones that need the help the most. It is you that forced me to figure out everything about this hunk of garbage designed to make money after the sale.

People like you are a danger . There is a documented case of a child being killed because of an amature bodge job. I have asked if admin can remove your link and hopefully they will. You have not figured anything out except how to bodge!!

If stairlift companies would be fair and honest and not overcharge people who need help the most you wouldn’t have people like me who are forced to find ways to make them work or their loved ones might fall or not be able to climb the stairs. My mom suffers from a crippling disease and she is weak and can barely climb the stairs. She might fall and die. That would be the fault of the “stairlift engineer” swindlers and the stairlift manufacturer out there who are “bodging” innocent peoples lives. I had to figure out how it operated and I know that there are others out there that can’t afford to be swindled out of their money and they need to help their loved one as well.
However, ianb, because you sent me the service manual to begin with and because I can tell that you are genuinely concerned about it, I decided to remove the part about overriding the OSG from the link above. Oh, and Northern Mobility, if what I said is all wrong, why is my stairlift working perfectly now?

Rest assured I wont be sending the service manual to anyone else in future. You have just proved that a little knowledge can be dangerous. I do appreciate you removing the bit about the osg override. You say your stairlift is working perfectly. It may not be you know. Some safety systems may not be functioning correctly ie final limit protection. Just because something runs up and down the stairs doesn’t mean it is working perfectly 😉

Yes and thank you. The final limit protection works as well as the bumper stops installed.

Hi, I have a Acorn 180 curve and I need to reprogram due to the batteries being disconnected , The trouble is my board does not have any programming switches to set, Its a different board to that shown in your problem solving guide. It has no daughter board with the switches, the LED being integrated on a single board only. But as mentioned no switches for programming. Can anyone offer some advice please.
