Many thanks indeed for your help,

I cleaned up the copper strips with some IPA and I think the issue has entirely disappeared. Must have been some greasy fingers during the move.
The noise of the slide track has remained the same, i.e. much more than the chair, however I imagine this must be normal.
After a weeks use it is not getting any worse and operating well. The chair is extremely quiet in comparison though..
