1. The Acorn 80 batteries will charge from zero volts, no need to take off the batteries and charge elsewhere, you just need to get the lift on a charge point.

2. Has the lift got a hinged track? If it has the dip switch would be on, if not turn it off

Reset the datum when you have enough power and it should be fine
