ianb, I have been in contact with suppliers, have got Dolphin and Stannah visiting tomorrow for quotes. I think that is the way to go now, if as you say it looks like the gearbox then it would make sense to pull out the whole thing and start again, I was quoted yesterday for a new gearbox at £623 plus labour, at the end of that the 400 is 8 years old so its done well.
