It’s not a matter of bolts coming loose, they can be tightened to the point that the seat won’t move at all, but that defeats the object.

I’ve seen a cable for about £50, which yes, isn’t cheap, though I know a man who might be able to do better.

I tried fitting springs to the seat, where the cable would otherwise attach, but getting just the right tension springs is proving difficult.

I’ll keep looking.
