I have a Acorn 180 and it has not been real reliable. If you are handy you can probably make small repairs yourself. Major repairs can be difficult especially if you have to remove the unit from the rail. And of course if you have to call for service it could be quite expensive. I had a lot of problems with batteries made in China. I finally ordered batteries from CRC out of England that have 1 1/2 year warenty and they are great. Advantage of Acorn 180 is it is infinitely configurable and great for the DIY person. Handicare is probably a better choice but you would have to find one that was the same configuration as your stairs. If you do buy a Acorn I have a lot of extra track pieces (left hand config). Let me know if you have any other questions.
