Acorn 180 stairlift encoder failure

Hi. I recently purchased a used Acorn 180 stairlift and track that wasn’t working. I would like to install it in my home if I can get it to work. I have installed it on a short section of track to test it. The leveling motor seems to work but the drive motor isn’t working. The display is showing a “2” code which, according to the service manual, appears to be “Encoder Failure”. Is the encoder something on the circuit board? Is this something that can be fixed?
