Acorn Superglide 120 power supply and charging issue

Hi
I’ve scoured the internet for info to no avail. Basic electrical knowledge, and a lot of browser tabs later and here I am looking for some advice.
This is my dilemma – When removing a section of skirting board, i managed (clever me etc) to cut the cable from the power supply to the stairlift – the black bi-wire running from the power adapter.
I have taken off the damaged bit of cable and reconnected to the connector with the white insulated (blue/brown) cable to the charging points. also changed the fuse in the plug, but still not getting the stairlift to charge.
Stairlift is running, but not at full strength (ie with passenger) showing E8 error (which I believe means low battery – that figures) and not beeping on reaching charging point, so evidently there is no power. also checked the mains socket is functioning.
I’m wondering if I have damaged the power adapter, or maybe the charging points, or worse – something within the workings of the chair unit itself, which I am loathe to explore before trying the more obvious options.
Wondering if anyone has any insight into this, as last resort has to be calling a technician and parting with upwards of £200 for what is likely a simple fix. A replacement power supply I can cope with.
Any assistance greatly received.
Thanks

Unlikely you’ve damaged the stairlift. Maybe you blew the charger when you cut it, or maybe another connection has come loose while you’ve been trying to sort it. Start by checking you’re getting 24~30VAC out of the charger and if that’s OK work your way along the circuit and hope you don’t have to dive too deep before you find the problem. Good luck.

Dealt with this recently. Very. Complex. Diagnosis. Used disgnostics not sold these days plus unique knowledge and experience.

There is an identical Bruno (R) stairlift post, seeking info, in the (largely useless) Acorn Users Facebook Support Group. Although the OP’s problem isn’t preventable, in my experience, much of the consequent ruined stairlifts (facing de-installation) that I have recently worked on were easily preventable, at the time right after installation. A study or survey in California showed that 11% of appliances were wrecked by smartmisters, within months of the smart meeterr rollout.
My credentials for my opinions can be found with an Internet search for my Bona Fides.
