Handicare 950 Troubleshooting

ParticipantI’m troubleshooting a Handicare 950 stairlift which I purchased used recently. It won’t move and it looks like it should move. I’m probably missing something obvious, but here goes…
o The lift is off its rails and is sitting on my workbench with its guts wide open
o When powered on, the display reads “-” which appears to mean “OK”
o There are two status LEDs on the motherboard which will either flash red, or is solid green. I assume the flashing red indicates the chair is good to go. Is that true?
o When I engage the motion buttons, nothing happens: no beeps, no noises, no release of magic smoke, etc.
o The arms of the chair are both in the down position
o I have not tried using the remote control with fresh batteries
o There are two contacts on the inside, one of which has a bar which is held by a spring against the contact band on the side of the rail. Is the other lead used as some kind of ground? I only have one channel of copper band on the rail and assume it is not used.
o The lock control on the arm has a ground (earth) lead and a green and red lead. I don’t have the key and am not sure if one of the leads goes to ground.
Any thoughts on troubleshooting this gem would be appreciated.
Thanks,
David

ParticipantWhen powered on, the display reads “-” which appears to mean “OK”
means its charging and ready to go, should alter and show a different code when a call is made depending on the direction of travel
o There are two status LEDs on the motherboard which will either flash red, or is solid green. I assume the flashing red indicates the chair is good to go. Is that true? never really took much notice of the leds but yes shows power is to board
o When I engage the motion buttons, nothing happens: no beeps, no noises, no release of magic smoke, etc.
batteries good? main isolator switch connected, fuse on the batteries good all safety edges good?
o The arms of the chair are both in the down position
there are chair arm switches on some models, these fail so are shorted out by some ‘engineers’ then is also a seat pad switch on some models, these are in the control circuit for the joystick, the common feed
o I have not tried using the remote control with fresh batteries
get the lift running first then worry about the remotes!
o There are two contacts on the inside, one of which has a bar which is held by a spring against the contact band on the side of the rail. Is the other lead used as some kind of ground? I only have one channel of copper band on the rail and assume it is not used.
one is the charge pin, the other is the coms connection, used for hinges or slide tracks
o The lock control on the arm has a ground (earth) lead and a green and red lead. I don’t have the key and am not sure if one of the leads goes to ground.
key switch is just a switch, doesnt go to ground! 950 has a stupid feature where the key can be removed when it is switched on! check the continuity across the key switch if its open circuit, short out the plug in the arm

ParticipantFlashing red indicates fault in the limit circuit. key switch, swivel seat and final limit switches would cause this
Possibly the round push stop is pressed in if its fairly new ( you might not have one fitted ) would also cause this.
The diagnostic display will always state – until a call is put in, you’re probably getting 0 when a call is in
