There is an identical Bruno (R) stairlift post, seeking info, in the (largely useless) Acorn Users Facebook Support Group. Although the OP’s problem isn’t preventable, in my experience, much of the consequent ruined stairlifts (facing de-installation) that I have recently worked on were easily preventable, at the time right after installation. A study or survey in California showed that 11% of appliances were wrecked by smartmisters, within months of the smart meeterr rollout.
