Sounds like you’ve got a motor drive or gearbox fault as they have covered the basics.
I think the rollers are a red herring as the ride would be poor all the way up (unless the track is damaged), and £40 a roller is quite steep.
Has anyone actually checked the meshing and fixings are secure on the racking all the way up the track?
If I was in your position I would probably look at replacing the carriage for a newer reconditioned unit, the newer version has a few improvements which make the lift look a little tidier such as the trailing flex is no longer used and it’s still a good workhorse..
May be worth saying where you are located as one of the members on here may be able to offer you a deal.
I would say you would be looking at a £500 – £1200 dependent on the age of the new unit and the amount of work to covert the track. Or you could consider buying a new lift at under £1500 for something reliable.
