Hi Spike. thanks for your response but I have still been unable to locate the button (you’re dealing with an old person so please make allowances). As the lift still works using the control on the arm I do not want to poke around too much and risk disabling it completely. Let me say what I have done so far.
I have removed the two screws on the cover on the downward side of the chair where the on/off switch is located. This reveals a mass of wires and connectors. To the left when looking at it there is a vertically mounted circuit board. In front of that is a brown component in a black sleeve with the number 5 on it. Behind that is a larger copper coloured component with small holes in it which I deduce is probably the bleeper. Below that is a white connector on the board over which the black and red wires are located. No sign of a button or access to the board.
Any further help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
